If you enjoy the nursing field but don't have the money or time required to complete a nursing degree, a fabulous position as a certified nursing assistant awaits you! With today's growing demand for medical services, an aging population, and high replacement needs, you can get into this field sooner than you might think.
Certified Nursing Assistant Duties
As a certified nursing assistant, you will enjoy great flexibility and variety with your job duties. Under the supervision of licensed nurses and medical staff, you will answer patients' calls, deliver messages, make beds, serve meals, and help patients eat, dress, and bathe. Additionally, you may also take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, as well as provide skin care and observe physical, mental, and emotional conditions.
Obtaining Certified Nursing Assistant Training
One of the best things about a nurse assistant position is that it doesn't require as much experience and eudcation as other nursing jobs. Most hospitals require a minimum of 75 hours of training and completion of a competency evaluation program. Training can be obtained through high schools, vocational and technical centers, nursing care facilities, community colleges, and universities. Typical coursework covers body mechanics, nutrition, anatomy, physiology, infection control, and communication skills.
So if you're ready to embark upon a flexible, highly rewarding, and very accessible career, now is the time to become part of the growing team of certified nursing assistants.
