Most people think of hospitals as a place where healing happens. And while that is the obvious main function of a healthcare facility, hospitals are also businesses which must make money to operate.

To complement the work of doctors, nurses, and lab technicians, health care facilities need administrative personnel who plan, direct, coordinate, and process all of their services. If you have business-savvy and solid organizational skills, a healthcare management career might be the perfect fit for you. There are several healthcare management jobs with different responsibilities that may work for you.

Different Health Care Management Jobs

In larger hospitals, you could be in charge of something as straightforward as maintaining patient records or something as complex as administrating the entire facility. In smaller healthcare clinics, you will have more contact with physicians and patients. You will also have a wider range of responsibilities such as billing, coding, planning, and purchasing.

Start with a Healthcare Management Program

The great thing about a health care management career is that you can choose from a wide variety of post-graduate degrees to advance in your field:
  • Public Health
  • Health Services Administration
  • Public Administration
  • Health Sciences
  • Business Administration

A bachelor's degree might get you an entry level position, but according to the U.S. Department of Labor, those with master's degrees get higher paying, more senior-level positions. In fact, the median earnings for qualified health care managers is over $60,000.

The need for healthcare managers is increasing, so now is the time to get started with a healthcare management program to launch your career.
