Our population is aging and medical technology is making leaps and bounds. These and other factors are resulting in healthcare's much-reported growth. One healthcare career that doesn't require medical school, but instead a lot of patience and caring, is medical office administration.

When job sites have too many results to display from a given search, they will say something like "more than 1,000." That's just what comes up on Monster when you search for "medical office." Medical office jobs are seeing just as much growth as other jobs in the healthcare industry, and more and more new professionals in medical office administration will be needed in the next decade, which is expected to see major growth in the healthcare industry.

Medical Office Administration Training

Medical office jobs entail much more than faxing, copying, and answering phones. You can earn your certification in any one of the following areas:
  • Medical Billing
  • Medical Coding
  • Medical Terminology
  • Medical Insurance
  • Medical Transcription

Once you have certification, you'll be qualified to start working in the healthcare industry, in a medical office job in virtually any location of your choosing.

Jobs in Medical Office Administration

In 2004, the middle 50% of office administrators earned salaries between $28,500 and $43,430. As you gain experience and your responsibilities in the medical office grow, your salary will grow, too.

Getting your training in medical office administration will prepare you for other medical office jobs, too. You can go on to pursue other training, such as medical transcription and medical billing, which often pay more and offer more flexibility.
