Opportunity is growing for the veterinary health industry all over the US, from new business growth to fighting animal diseases. For animal and science lovers looking to take advantage of this growth, veterinary school is the first step.

New Business for Veterinary Clinics

In Michigan, veterinary clinics and hospitals are now allowed to run their businesses in an industrial area. Previously, veterinary clinics were restricted to being allowed to operate only in business parks and rural or agricultural districts.

In southern California, low-income communities will qualify for financial assistance for veterinary bills. Some city governments are encouraging citizens to keep their pets healthy and are even offering help.

States Devise New Programs to Keep Animals Healthy

In New York, a new veterinary certificate program has been launched that invites new dog owners to bring in their puppies. The first veterinary clinic visit is free at any of the 2,000 veterinary clinics or hospitals enrolled in the program.

In Iowa, a veterinary response team is growing, comprised completely of volunteers searching for cases of foreign animal diseases in all 99 counties of Iowa. These volunteers share the responsibility of controlling animal disease with veterinary clinics, thereby creating a shared effort to benefit the communities throughout the state.

A Veterinary Career

All of these new state programs are creating more job opportunities for those with a degree in veterinary health. If you're interested in a veterinary career, the first step is veterinary school. Some veterinary schools require prerequisite courses, but there are a number you can enroll in (even some online) that allow students to start from scratch. After earning a degree from veterinary school, you can begin your career at a veterinary hospital or clinic.

Although they might not earn as much as physicians, the earnings are still strong. The average annual veterinary salary was over $66,000 two years ago. For people who love animals and science, a veterinary career will be full of opportunity in many areas of the US.
