In 1899 Sigmund Freud published The Interpretation of Dreams, and psychology as we know has never been the same. With the number of degrees and general courses available in psychology today, it is no wonder that more and more students are showing interest.
At its most basic level, psychology involves the study of the human mind, and the mental processes and behaviors of individuals in various circumstances from business, to relationships, to daily life. A degree in psychology will provide you with the knowledge base to pursue a career in a number of specialties in the field of psychology.
No Limit to Psychology
A psychology degree will provide you with a knowledge base of both theory and research in psychology. Curriculum in a psychology degree programs encompasses every major theoretical modality used in psychological assessment and practice, including the study of both the human mind and human behavior. Courses offered in a psychology degree program will typically include the study of general psychology, in addition to electives in such things as child and adolescent psychology, physiological psychology, or abnormal psychology. You may also chose to pursue further study in the area of psychology that interests you most, such as addiction psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, educational or business psychology, family psychology, health psychology, or sports psychology. With a degree in psychology you can pursue many specialties.
Psychology is a rapidly growing field, and there are many opportunities for employment, which is what makes it appealing to so many people. With a degree in psychology you will be qualified to pursue positions with social, government, and medical services agencies as a consultant or as a psychologist. You will also be able to work with patients in a hospital, do research in the field, or pursue your own practice. With psychology degree you may also wish to go on and earn additional training or graduate study in psychology where opportunities and salaries are further expanded.
