If you have a strong desire to help others, a nursing career could be exactly what you're looking for. And whether you choose to become a registered nurse or nursing assistant, you'll enjoy being part of a rewarding profession as you respond to the health needs of individuals everywhere.
Nursing Duties
Nursing duties can vary greatly, depending upon the facility and environment you choose to work in. In a hospital, you might provide direct care to many patients. Tasks will range from the minor (taking temperatures, providing meals, transporting patients) to the critical (administering medications, documenting vital statistics, aiding doctors with surgical procedures).
As a rehab nurse, you would work one-on-one with patients who need help strengthening muscles and recovering from traumas or surgeries. Or with a nursing career in convalescent homes or home-health aid, you'll be responsible for those patients who need continuous care in the form of assisted daily living.
Nursing Profession Outlook
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities in nursing are expanding rapidly. As an older nursing population is currently leaving, there remains a shortage of new nurses to take their places. As a result, many employers are now restructuring workloads, improving working conditions, increasing compensation, and subsidizing training and development.
Now is the time to get started on a fabulously rewarding nursing career. By combining your medical nursing experience with hands-on compassion and care, you'll reap the benefits of a fast-paced healthcare occupation with a strong human-touch component.
