Admit it, you have a thing about flossing. The thought of eating an apple without flossing afterwards kills you. Hygiene is important to you (as it should be) and it might even lead to a rewarding career.
Dental Hygiene Jobs
Dental hygiene jobs allow you to work directly with patients and dentists to promote strong and healthy teeth. With a dental hygiene job, you would:
Remove plaque, stains, and deposits from teeth
Assist dentists with fillings and periodontal dressings
Work with patients to develop a good hygiene program
Benefits of a Dental Hygiene Career
Dental hygiene jobs are so sought after because you get plenty of interaction with patients, flexible work hours, and solid wages. In fact, according to the US Department of Labor, the median hourly wage for Dental hygienists is over $26 per hour. You'd think that for a job like that it would be really hard to train for, but it's not.
Dental Hygiene Schools
To be a dental hygienist, you must first attend an accredited dental hygiene school, then pass a written and clinical exam administered by the American Dental Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations. Most dental hygiene programs offer laboratory, clinical, and academic work with an associate's degree upon completion.
The best dental hygienists work well with their hands, pay attention to detail, and have solid interpersonal skills. So when you choose a dental hygiene program, be sure to choose one that offers you plenty of hands-on experience, in real work environments.
After you've chosen the right program, you'll be ready to turn your passion for cleanliness into a dynamic and profitable career.
